John Carlos to be Inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame

Texas A&M-Commerce standout John Carlos will be inducted in the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2009 on Saturday.

This marks the third consecutive year that a Lion has been inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame.

Carlos led then East Texas State to a Lone Star Conference Track and Field title in 1967 with a winning performance in the 100-yard dash (9.5) and the 220-yard dash (21.0). He also was a member of the fourth place 4x440-yard relay team.

He will be inducted along with Willie E.B. Blackmon, Terrance "Chet" Brooks, Fran Harris, Ronald "Jellyroll" Ingram, Clifton Johnson, Ike Thomas, Ricky Wesson and John Wilkerson.

The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Westin City Center Hotel, 650 North Pearl Street in Dallas.

The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame is a permanent exhibit at The African-American Museum in Dallas, Texas. The African- American Museum is the only museum in the Southwestern United States devoted to the preservation and display of African American artistic, cultural and historical materials. The Museum also has one of the largest African American folk art collections in the United States.
