Commerce, Texas – After suffering a 38-17 loss to FCS foe Stephen F. Austin on September 13, the Lions look to right the ship against its first NCAA Division II opponent of the 2014 season and fellow Lone Star Conference member, Texas A&M-Kingsville, in a battle for the Chennault Cup September 20 at the LSC Football Festival at AT&T Stadium at 10 a.m.
The Lions offense sputtered for only three points at the half against the Jacks, but found their rhythm in the second half tallying 14 points over the final 30 minutes of play. All told, the Lions reeled off 327 yards of offense, 295 yards through the air, against the FCS opponent.
On the defensive side, the Lions were burned by missed tackles and a crucial scramble play that resulted in a 60-yard scoring play for SFA right before the half. The defensed did force five turnovers including three interceptions in the loss.
A&M-Commerce will look to rebound against a Kingsville team that enters the contest at 1-1 and is coming off of 17-14 win in their last game.
