Upcomming Events:

  i. TAMU- Commerce Annual Big Event (3 years ) - A community service effort taking place in the Spring of every year (April) where students and community volunteers work on projects both on campus as well as in the greater community that include painting lamp posts downtown, beautifying the shores of Gee Lake, picking up litter, and planting flowers in Authors' Park.

ii. Special Olympics Volunteer Event Coordinator – Irving, TX Fall 2010, Commerce, TX Spring 2011

iii. Lion Movers- August 2011 - All athletic teams helped arriving students and incoming freshman move into their dorms. It was a great opportunity to engage with new and returning students to let them know that we are all part of the Lion family.

iv. SAAC Sackers- November 2011 - All athletic teams partnered up with Brookshire’s to help bag groceries for the customers. It was a great opportunity for us to engage with the community and meet and greet Commerce residents while they were out shopping and help them load bags into their cars.

v. Food Drive- November 2011 – All athletic teams and Greek life participated in a competitive food drive. The organization that accumulated the most food was recognized and all of the food was donated to needy families for the Holidays. Clothing, blanket, coat and toy drives were also carried out in the same manner.

vi. Meals on Wheels – November 2011
All athletic teams gathered at the methodist church to pack Thanksgiving dinners in boxes and deliver them to the cars of needy families with vouchers. We also helped serve free breakfast that morning to the public.

vii. Turkey Trot Dance- November 2011 – All athletic teams put on a sock-hop at the local nursing home, dancing and engaging with the elderly. Baked goods were also brought over for our new friends to enjoy during the Holidays.

viii. Make-A-Wish Foundation – Division II SAAC is partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation and sets an annual goal of raising enough funds to grant a child’s wish. At Commerce we have reached out to the community to help us accomplish this goal through donations, a dodge ball tournament, t-shirt sales, ice cream socials, hot chocolate sales, penny wars, and passing the change bucket at campus events. We have been successful in raising thousands of dollars and it is truly an honor to be a part of an organization that supports this philanthropy.
