Men Finish Third; Women Finish 10th at Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships

Three members of the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's cross country team - Tyler Tyndell (pictured to the right), Cody Hughes (pictured below) and Robert Reed earned all-Lone Star Conference honors and led the Lions to a third-place finish at the 2008 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Tyndell, who earned his second-straight all-LSC recognition, finished fourth overall in a time of 23:45. Hughes, who was making his LSC Championship debut, was seventh in 24:27 and Reed finished eighth in 24:34. The trio were joined by the 19th-place finish (25:31) of junior Gerardo Delafunete and 40th-place performance (27:00) of sophomore Brandon Womack in the 7,700-meter race.

Abilene Christian, who is ranked No. 2 in the latest national USTFCCCA poll, won its 18th-straight men's conference title and Tarleton State edged the Lions by a point for runner up honors with 77. Behind the Lions were East Central (89), Angelo State (142), Cameron (146), Eastern New Mexico (174), West Texas A&M (193) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (270). ECU headed into the race as the No. 5 team in the latest USTFCCCA South Central regional rankings.

The next meet for the Lions is the NCAA South Central Regional meet in two weeks on Nov. 8 at the University of Incarnate Word, where the Lions won the UIW Invitational on Sept. 27.

On the women's side, sophomore Kate Donovan was 23rd in a 6k time of 24:47 to lead the A&M-Commerce women's cross country team to a 10th-place finish.
 
Midwestern State won the team title with three runners in the top ten and Winrose Karunde of Abilene Christian won the individual title in convincing fashion in 21:39 by 36 seconds over teammate Loice Cheboi.

Freshman Gabrielle Greer was 59th in 28:18, redshirt freshman Mindy Solorio was 64th in 29:27, freshman Savannah Brookins was 65th in 29:41 and junior Holly Langford was 69th in 31:08.
