A&M-Commerce Cross Country Begins 2009 Season
At the 2009 Brooks Memphis Twilight, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's and women's cross country finished ninth and 18th, respectively. The men were second among Division II schools and placed three runners in the top 35.
After lightning delayed the start
of the race by 30 minutes, senior Tyler Tyndell
was the top finisher for the men's team, finishing 19th
overall in a four-mile time of 21:00.81. He was the third finisher
among Division II competitors. Junior Brandon
Womack was 27th in a time of 21:16.38 and
senior Gerardo Delafuente was 35th in
21:25.43.
Tyndell, Womack and Delafuente ran together for the first three
miles of the race. Tyndell closed out with a 5:04 mile en
route to his 19th-place finish, according to assistant coach Karen
Prisby Newcomers Nathan White and Ross
Hicks stayed together for the opening two miles, noted
Prisby.
White was 78th in his A&M-Commerce debut, crossing
the line in 22:24.46 and graduate student Logan
Kelly was 98th (23:01.84). HIcks ended up in
103rd (23:16.33), freshman Laurencio
Tamayo was 110th (23:23.50) and sophomore
Ray Moreno rounded out the A&M-Commerce lineup
in 165th (24:27.89).
On the women's side, freshman
Maci Bradford in her A&M-Commerce debut,
covering the 5k course in 20:39.15 in 67th in a race that was ran
in a downpour of rain. Junior Kate Donovan was
94th (21:47.85) and also making her A&M-Commerce
initial appearance was Jennifer Speer, who crossed
the line in 99th in 22:06.87.
12 places separated the next three as junior Emily
Gibson was 121st (23:44.74), sophomore
Jamie Hays was 132nd (24:59.78) and
sophomore Gaby Greer was 133rd
(25:00.41).
The next meet for the Lions is next Saturday, September 12th at the Buffalo Stampede, at the same course of the 2009 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships, in Canyon, Texas.
