Texas A&M-Commerce Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2009 and Bobby Fox Outstanding Coach Award Recipients

Texas A&M University-Commerce has announced today the newest inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame.

 

Nickie Brice (Men's Golf), Hugo Cabrera (Men's Basketball), Andrea Hines (Women's Basketball), Kevin Mathis (Football), Cary Noiel (Football), Joe Hinton (Meritorious Service) and the 1965 Men's Golf Team (Head Coach: C.W. "Boley" Crawford, Dennis Ewing, Russell Fowler, Craig Metz, Tem Miller, Jake Mosser, Mike O'Brien and Henry Paysee) will be inducted.

 

Founded in 1978, there are 126 former athletes, coaches and administrators along with eight teams that are enshrined in the Texas A&M-Commerce Athletic Hall of Fame. 

 

The group will be inducted during a special induction ceremony, October 9, during Homecoming Weekend at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center on the A&M-Commerce campus.

 

Also being honored will be the Bobby Fox Award selections, Dennis Ewing, Bill Ingram, Ron Poe, David Shepherd and Skip Townsend.

 

Nickie Brice played on the Lions' men's golf team from 1962-64, where he earned All-American honors in 1963 and 1964. He won the Lone Star Conference individual title in 1964.

 

Hugo Cabrera was a member of the Lions' men's basketball team from 1972-76. He was named honorable mention All-American in 1974-75 and all-LSC in 1974-75 and 1975-76.

 

Andrea Hines is one of the most decorated women's basketball players in school history. She was a two-time all-Lone Star Conference selection and was a second team Academic All-American as a senior. She scored 1,208 points in her two seasons, averaging 20.5 points a game.

 

Joe Hinton played on the Lions football team during his undergraduate years before moving on to a successful business career. His recognition is based on his contributions to the university, both in athletics and in academics.

 

Kevin Mathis, a four-year letterwinner on the Lions' football team from 1993-96, was a three-time All-American and all-Lone Star Conference performer. He went on to play in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.

 

Cary Noiel was a member of the Lions football team from 1978-81, where he earned All-American honors in 1981 and all-LSC honors in 1980 and 1981. He currently ranks third all-time in rushing with 3,268 yards and led the Lions for three-straight seasons in rushing.

 

The 1965 A&M-Commerce men's golf team is the ninth team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The 1965 men's golf team, under the direction of head coach C.W. "Boley" Crawford, went on to win the national championship. Craig Metz led the team as he won his second-straight individual title.
