14 LIONS NAMED D2 ADA ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS

COMMERCE, Texas -- 14 Texas A&M University-Commerce student-athletes have been honored as Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award Winners for the 2010-11 season. 

The Lion honorees span seven different sports, led by four selections from the soccer team. The 14 recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award are as follows:

Ronald Balthazar - Men's Track and Field
Megan Benites - Women's Golf
Sarah Blair - Women's Basketball
Andrew Davis - Men's Basketball
Randi Hafele - Soccer
Devon Herrman - Soccer
Jamie Hays - Women's Cross Country
Jordan McCarty - Soccer
Rachel Robertson - Volleyball
Chelsea Simonton - Volleyball
Jennifer Speer - Women's Cross Country
Paige Vincent - Soccer
Melanie Williams - Volleyball
Brandon Womack - Men's Track and Field

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues paying member of the DII ADA. Also, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

Ninety-eight institutions sent in nominees for the 2010-11 Academic Achievement Awards, while a total of 3,676 student-athletes are being recognized this year.
