A&M-COMMERCE STUDENT-ATHLETES LEND A HAND FOR LION MOVERS 2011
COMMERCE, Texas -- With the start of the new school year just around the corner, A&M-Commerce student-athletes took some time out to help incoming freshmen move into their new dorms as part of Lion Movers 2011.
All 11 A&M-Commerce athletic programs were represented, working in shifts throughout the day and battling the 100-degree-plus temperatures to assist incoming freshman get settled into the new Freshman Hall as well Whitley Hall.
"Athletics is a major part of the A&M-Commerce college experience, and we felt it was only fitting that our department become involved," said Athletic Director Carlton Cooper. "We want to see students support our games and events and therefore feel it is important for our student-athletes to turn around help out whenever possible."
The freshman move-in event was no small task as A&M-Commerce surpassed the 11,000 student mark for the 2011 fall semester, providing an influx of incoming freshmen. Members of the volleyball, soccer and football teams assisted after their morning practices, while representatives from men's basketball made sure they would be noticed, wearing their game jerseys during the event.
Lion Movers is one of many Community Engagement projects the A&M-Commerce student-athletes are involved in throughout the year.
