Spraggins' 3-point shooting helps A&M-Commerce down East Central, 108-86

DeUndrae Spraggins scored a career-high 42 points and connected on a program-record 10 3-pointers to help Texas A&M University-Commerce cruise past the East Central Tigers, 108-86, on Wednesday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.

"I felt great," said Spraggins. "I knocked the shots down when they counted."

A&M-Commerce moves to 15-9 on the season and 6-3 in Lone Star Conference North Division play, while ECU drops to 6-20 and 1-9. The Lions

Overall, the Lions set four new records with their shooting from beyond the arc, including team and individual marks in 3’s made and attempted.

Spraggins jumped to the top of the A&M-Commerce record books with a 10-for-21 clip from the 3-point line. He scored the teams first 11 points of the game and tallied 33 points in the opening period to lead the Lions to a 60-37 advantage at the break.

A&M-Commerce drained 12 3’s in the first, with seven coming from Spraggins, three from Brad Hambrick and two from Kaleb Henderson.

The Lions continued to rain 3’s in the second and Henderson’s third trifecta of the contest with 12:19 remaining pushed the team total to a men’s record 18. Hambrick sank three more triples and Dominique Taylor added another as A&M-Commerce ended 22-of-43 from 3-point land.

Cardell Hunter’s dunk after a block on the other end of the floor pushed the Lions’ advantage to 90-59 at the 11:20 mark, their largest of the game. East Central could only close to within 19 points on a 3 from Tyler Thetford with 1:11 to go.

Hambrick totaled 23 points, Henderson posted 11 and Taylor had 10 to pace the Lions to their highest scoring total of the season.

Thetford and Dontae Figgs collected 20 points apiece and Greenville native Justin Wilkerson totaled 17 points and 15 boards to lead ECU. Wes Badley added 12.

A&M-Commerce hits the road for its next contest against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Durant, Okla.
