Jackson's double-double pushes A&M-Commerce past ENMU, 73-64
Sammy Jackson recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions outscored the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, 73-64, on Thursday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
The Lions are now 8-6 for the season and have won four of their last five games, while the Greyhounds slip to 4-11 overall.
Eastern New Mexico began the contest with a 4-0 run and extended its lead to as much as seven with 9:24 left in the first, but DeUndrae Spraggins drilled a 3-pointer that charged the Lions on a 7-0 spurt to tie the game at 17.
A&M-Commerce eventually took a 20-19 lead on a Spraggins free throw and held the advantage until Aaron King ended the half with a 3 to give the Greyhounds a 27-26 lead at the half.
Spraggins and Dannon Wafer led both teams with 10 points each in the opening session.
The Lions roared out of the locker room and opened the second half on a 17-5 clip to take a 43-32 lead that was capped by another Spraggins’ 3.
ENMU crept back to within seven after Justin Reynolds sank a 3-pointer with 1:36 remaining, but the A&M-Commerce defense wouldn’t allow the Greyhounds to inch any closer. Jackson and Cardell Hunter connected on free throws down the stretch to halt any comeback attempt.
Spraggins tallied 18 points and nine rebounds, Brad Hambrick poured in 13 and Hunter added 11 to pace the Lions.
King hit three 3's and led the Greyhounds with 17 points. Wafer ended with 16 and Reynolds chipped in 12.
A&M-Commerce will return to action on Saturday against West Texas A&M at 2 p.m. in the A&M-Commerce Field House.
