Lions 16-0 Run Sparks 74-62 Win Over Texas A&M-International


With four players in double figures, the Texas A&M University-Commerce posted a 74-62 win over Texas A&M-International in its final game of the 2008 St. Edward's University Shootout in Austin.

The Lions (1-1) shot a blistering 60.9% second half as well as a decisive 16-0 run in the final 20 minutes sparked A&M-Commerce to the victory. Junior Sammy Jackson came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points to lead the Lions. Deundrae Spraggins added 16 as well as Cardell Hunter and Ronnie Morgan each chipped in 13 for the winning cause.

Texas A&M-International (1-1) got a team-high 17 points from Sean Tucker including 5 three pointers. Jerante Morgan, who added 10 in the defeat, joined him in double digits. The Dustdevils were held to 31% shooting in the final 20 minutes and committed 25 turnovers for the contest.

In addition to forcing 25 TAMIU turnovers, the Lions defense came up with 14 steals and out-rebounded the Dustdevils by a 34 to 31 margin. Hunter and Rashad Brown led the Lions on the boards with seven.

After Tucker cut the Lions lead to five on a lay up with 18:03 left in the game, five quick points by Spraggins sparked a game-deciding 16-0 run put A&M-Commerce ahead 53-33 with 13:36 to go.

A&M-Commerce is back in action on Thursday night against Southern Arkansas at 7 pm in Magnolia.
