Lions Fall to Ouachita Baptist, 67-63
Daniel Maddox hit a put back with 19 seconds left and Jaranimo Marks hit two free throws to lead host Ouachita Baptist to a 67-63 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday night at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
After Maddox put the Tigers up, 65-63, A&M-Commerce senior Rashad Brown missed two free throws with seven seconds to go. Marks extended the margin to four, added two free throws for the final margin in the loss.
A&M-Commerce (3-3) had four in double figures including a team-high 15 from freshman Brad Hambrick. He was joined in double digits by Brown, who had his third-straight double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Also in double figures were Sammy Jackson and Cardell Hunter, who each scored 12 in the loss.
Ouachita Baptist (7-1) got a game-high 27 points from Marks to lead three Tigers in double figures. He was joined by Ed Keyes and Antonio Benjamin, who added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
With the game tied for the 11th time in the contest and at 60, Marks hit his fifth three pointer of the contest with the shot clock expiring with 2:34 to go; however, Hambrick retaliated hitting his third 3-point field goal of the game.
Following the seventh tie of the opening half, the Lions went on a 6-0 run to close out the half to take a 34-28 advantage. During the run, Brown scored four of the six points for A&M-Commerce.
The host Tigers came back to score 17 of the first 23 points of the second half for a 45-40 advantage with 14:54 to go.
The Lions will return to action at home for its next contest on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Field House against Southern Arkansas. Earlier this year, the Lions defeated SAU, 75-55 on November 20th.
