A&M-Commerce Records 67-62 Win Over Missouri S&T

Texas A&M University-Commerce snapped a two-game losing skid with a 67-62 win over Missouri S&T on Monday afternoon in the opening game of the St. Edward’s Holiday Classic in Austin.

An 18-6 run to start the second half sparked the Lions, who even their record at 5-5 on the season. Nine of the points came from senior guard Cardell Hunter, who shared in game-high honors with 17 points. Senior DeUndrae Spraggins and junior Sammy Jackson with 15 and 14 points joined him in double digits, respectively.

The Miners (4-5) landed three in double digits including Marquis Jones, who scored a team-high 17. Both Adam Knollmeyer and Justin Taylor scored 14 in the defeat.

The two teams exchanged four ties in the first 20 minutes as A&M-Commerce held a 26-24 lead at the intermission. A layup by Knollmeyer tied the game for the fifth time to start the second half before Hunter hit his lone 3 pointer to put the Lions in front by three and for the remainder of the contest.

With a 12-point advantage, 44-32 and 12:55 to go in the contest, Missouri S&T rallied with a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to one, 46-45. A&M-Commerce answered with a decisive 13-2 spurt of its own that included two three pointers by freshman Brad Hambrick. 

The next contest for the Lions will be on Tuesday afternoon, December 30 at 1 p.m. against No. 5 Arkansas-Monticello in Austin. The Boll Weevils (9-1) dropped a 79-59 decision to host St. Edward's on Monday afternoon.
