Lions Shoot 61.5% from the Field in 66-59 Win Over Ouachita Baptist
Texas A&M University-Commerce made 61.5% of its shots from the field in a 66-59 win over host Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas on Saturday night. With the win, A&M-Commerce is off to a 5-1 start for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Lions' senior Ronnie Morgan scored a career-high and game-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds in the contest. Junior Brian Singleton added 11 points, five rebounds and five steals in the win; plus senior Justin Wilkerson had nine points for A&M-Commerce. Olden Jordan, Austin Mitchell and Reggie Britton each had seven points for Ouachita Baptist, who was held to 37.7% shooting to fall to 1-6 in the loss. A&M-Commerce started the contest making 65% shots from the field and 90% of its free throws as they held a 35-22 advantage at the halftime break. In all five of the Lions' wins, they have led at the intermission. A&M-Commerce didn't hit a three pointer but they did outscore the Tigers by a 24 to 8 margin on points in the paint in the first 20 minutes. Midway through the second half, Ouachita Baptist managed to cut the A&M-Commerce advantage to one, 47-46 with 10:05 to go before Morgan answered by scoring six of the next seven points in the game to spark the Lions. The Tigers failed to concede as they had an answer as they trimmed the Lions' lead to two, 57-55 with 2:36 remaining and Morgan had the answer with a 3-point play to lead A&M-Commerce to the victory. Next, the Lions will host its first game of the season at the A&M-Commerce Field House on Tuesday at 7 pm when they take on Henderson State.
