Ronnie Morgan Named LSC North Division Defensive Player of the Week

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior forward Ronnie Morgan became the first player in school history on Monday to earn Lone Star Conference North Division Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Dallas, Texas native had his second double-double of the season with an 11 point, 12 rebound effort against Abilene Christian this past Saturday. He also had six points and five rebounds and a steal in the win over Henderson State, last Tuesday.

Last week, the Morgan and the Lions held Abilene Christian to 39.1 percent shooting and 28 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Against Henderson State, the Reddies were held to 35.7 percent shooting from the field and 18.8 percent from beyond the 3-point line. In both games, the Lions outrebounded their opponent by a double-digit margin.

On Monday night, Morgan and the Lions raised their record to 7-1 with an 84-77 win over Angelo State and are off to their best start since the 2002-03. In the contest against the Rams, Morgan had his third double double with a 14 point, 10 rebound effort to go along with three blocked shots.

The Lions will next take to the road to face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday at 9 pm (CST) in Portales and West Texas A&M on Monday at 8 pm in Canyon. Both games can be heard live on KETR (88.9 FM/www.ketr.org).
