Texas A&M-Commerce Picked to Win Lone Star Conference North Division

Coming off a share of the Lone Star
Conference North Division title in 2007, the coaches and Sports
Information Directors of the LSC, as well as interested media
representatives, the Texas A&M University-Commerce football
team is picked to win the Lone Star Conference North Division in a
pre-season poll announced on Thursday.
The Lions return all-region performers - Nabil
El-Amin, Elliot Jones and Darron
Sheppard as well as first team all-conference selections -
Alex Contreras, El-Amin, A.J.
Johnson, Jones and Sheppard.

Lions quarterback Terry Mayo was edged out by a vote the poll for the North Division Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year. East Central quarterback Marcus Johnson earned the honor with six first-place votes to the five for Mayo. Northeastern State safety Broderick Mondy was voted the Pre-Season Defensive Player of the Year in the North.
In the South Division of the conference, Abilene Christian was picked to win its share of the conference. The Wildcats, who the Lions will play on Sept. 13 in Abilene, finished with 10 first-place votes and 113 total points. Three-time defending LSC champion West Texas A&M received the most first-place votes (10) and 111 total points. Behind ACU and WT was Tarleton State, who finished third with 91, Midwestern State was fourth (75), Texas A&M-Kingsville was fifth (49), Angelo State sixth (43) and Eastern New Mexico seventh (22).
Abilene Christian running back and 2007 Harlon Hill runner up Bernard Scott was the LSC South Division Offensive Player of the Year and Jared Brock of West Texas A&M was selected as the LSC Defensive Player of the Year.
The Lions will begin pre-season workouts on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.
