Lions Football Receives 38 Votes in AFCA Preseason Poll
With the return of 36 letterwinners, including eight starters and the recognition of first year head coach Guy Morriss, the Texas A&M University-Commerce football received 38 votes in the American Football Coaches Association preseason poll.
The Lions find themselves among three schools that were ranked in the top 25 and four more that received votes from Lone Star Conference.
At the top of the poll is Grand Valley State, who is the defending national champion and received 12 first place votes. 2008 runner up Northwest Missouri State received four and No. 3 Minnesota Duluth received eight first place votes while the Lions' opponent for the Harvey Martin Classic on Sept. 12, Abilene Christian received the final first place votes.
Also in the top 25 from the Lone Star Conference is West Texas A&M at No. 11 and Central Oklahoma at No. 16. The Lions will face UCO on Saturday, September 26th at 6 pm at Memorial Stadium. Also receiving votes from the LSC are Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Southeastern Oklahoma and Midwestern State.
