Cory Whitfield Named Lone Star Conference North Division Defensive Player of the Week
Texas A&M University-Commerce senior linebacker Cory Whitfield was named Lone Star Conference North Division Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Lions' 20-14 heartbreaking loss to No. 2 Abilene Christian, this past Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Whitfield led the team with 13 tackles and picked off a pass and returned it 37 yards to tie the score at 7 against No. 2 Abilene Christian. It is his third-straight game with double-digit tackles and the last A&M-Commerce player to record double digit tackles since Andrew Gamboa started last year with three-straight games.
Whitfield and A&M-Commerce will next take on Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Portales, N.M. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm (CST) and can be heard live on KETR (88.9 FM/www.ketr.org).
