A&M-Commerce Receives Votes in First AFCA Coaches' Poll for 2010
Complete Poll
Closing out the 2009 season with three-straight wins and five of
the last six en route to a Lone Star Conference North Division
title for the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team has
caught the attention of the voters in the first AFCA Division II
Coaches’ Poll for 2010.
The Lions received 73 votes, just
shy of cracking the top 25 in the initial ranking. A&M-Commerce
would have been No. 26 if the poll went beyond the top 25 teams.
Four Lone Star Conference teams are in the top 25 including Abilene
Christian (No. 7), West Texas A&M (No. 11), Texas
A&M-Kingsville (No. 16) and Midwestern State (No. 19). The
Lions and Javelinas will meet for the Chennault Cup on September
18th
Also receiving votes with the Lions from the Lone Star Conference were Tarleton State (11), Angelo State (9) and Southeastern Oklahoma (4). A&M-Commerce will begin its fall preparations for the 2010 season on Monday, August 16th at the renovated Memorial Stadium. Among the additions in 2010 are the second largest scoreboard in NCAA Division II and bleachers, concession stand and ticket booth on the east side.
