DANNY MASON EARNS BSN SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICA HONORS

2012 Beyond Sports Network All-America Selections

COMMERCE, Texas -- A&M-Commerce's extensive list of All-Americans now has another name on the exclusive list as senior linebacker Danny Mason has been named a 2012 Beyond Sports Network second team All-American, announced today by the organization.

The accolade is the latest in an impressive resume for Mason, who has already been named the Lone Star Conference Linebacker of the Year as well as a Daktronics first team All-Region selection. The honors are well deserved as Mason finished the year as the LSC's leading tackler, recording 115 stops and averaging 11.5 tackles per game, and ranking third nationally in both categories. He also notched 11.5 tackles for loss and four sacks in 2012, both career-bests.

Mason, a four year letterwinner and three year starter for A&M-Commerce, closed his career with 280 tackles, which ranks third all-time in program history since defensive statistics began being recorded in the early 1990s. He became just the eighth linebacker in program history to be a two-time first team All-LSC selection, joining names such as Lion Hall of Famers Orville Hudson and Danny Kirk, as well as former teammate Cory Whitfield.

Mason becomes the first A&M-Commerce All-American since William Green was named a D2Football.com second team selection in 2009. With the addition of Mason, the Lions have now had 221 All-Americans in their storied history, including 41 second team honorees.

The Louisville, Ky., native was one of seven Lone Star Conference players named to the BSN All-America second team, joining West Texas A&M's Khiry Robinson (RB) and Manase Foketi (OL), Midwestern State's Justin Tyler (OL) and Randall Arbuckle (LS), Tarleton State's Rufus Johnson (DE) and Abilene Christian's LB Suggs (S). Leron Furr (Fort Valley State), Cory Johnson (Catawba) and Corey Jones (Lane) were the other linebackers that joined Mason on the second team.
