Casey Carlo is in his first season as an assistant coach for A&M-Commerce, handling the responsibilites for the Lion defensive line.
Carlo brings to Commerce a wealth of knowledge across Division I and Division II, serving most recently as the defensive line coach at Division I FCS Drake University. In 2011, the Bulldogs captured the Pioneer Football League championship, their first since 2004. Drake also ranked among the national leaders in a handful of defensive categories, including second in rush defense, third in red zone defense, fifth in sacks, eighth in scoring defense and 10th in total defense.
Prior to his time in Des Moines, Carlo spent one season at Southwest Minnesota State, helping the Mustangs improve their national ranking in a handful of statistical categories. Carlo also spent four seasons at Upper Iowa University as the defensive coordinator and head strength and conditioning coach from 2005 to 2008, mentoring a pair of All-Northern Sun players. The Peacocks also improved their national ranking in both rush defense and total defense during his time in Fayette.
Carlo spent a year in the high school ranks, serving as the defensive line coach at Urbandale High School in Urbandale, Iowa from 2004-05. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa. During his time, three of Carlo's players were drafted to the NFL with 15 being named All-Conference.
He got his start in coaching at Northern University High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa, taking on the role of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 1996-99.
Carlo earned his bachelor's degree in general studies with a minor in coaching from the University of Northern Iowa in 1996. During his career there, the Panthers captured the Gateway Conference championship three times, qualifying for the NCAA FCS playoffs.
