Worden Leads A&M-Commerce to Seventh-Place Tie at NSU Golf Classic

The Texas A&M
University-Commerce men's golf team rose to as high as tied for
fourth before finishing in a tie for seventh with St. Mary's on
Tuesday at the NSU Golf Classic in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
When play resumed on Tuesday, the Lions moved into a tie for fourth
with a round of 292 before closing out the tournament and final 18
holes with a 314 for a 54-hole total of 911 (305-292-314). Lone
Star Conference member Abilene Christian edged fellow LSC member
Central Oklahoma by a stroke for the team title, 881 (299-298-284)
to 882 (296-298-288).
Senior Blake Worden led the Lions with a 10-over
par 227 (76-75-76) to share 21st-place honors with two others.
Senior Pinkey Hartline was a stroke back with an
11-ver par 228 (77-72-79). Junior Danny Jun tied
for 32nd with a 230 (76-73-81), sophomore Dustin
Gideon tied for 40th with a 233 (76-77-80) and junior
Eric Westerman shared 55th-place honors with a 236
(85-72-79). For Westerman, who shot a 72, in the second round it
matches a career-best round for the Victoria, Texas native.
Individually, junior Brian Pearce tied for 35th
with a 54-hole total of 232 (76-77-79).
The Wildcats were led by individual champion Patrick Hanauer, who
shot a 4-under 212 (71-73-68) to edge by a stroke teammate Cyril
Bouniol with a 213 (74-72-67) and Colby Shrum of Central Oklahoma
(71-71-71).
A&M-Commerce will play in two more tournaments in the fall,
beginning with the SOSU Choctaw Nation Championship at the
Chickasaw Point Resort and Golf Club on October 6-7.
