Men's Golf Team in Fifth After Opening Round of Crawford-Wade invitational

The Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s golf team has three golfers in the top 20 and is in fifth place after the first round on Monday of the Crawford-Wade Invitational. 

A&M-Commerce and the rest of the field overcame chilly and rainy conditions at the Tangle wood Golf Resort & Spa to get in Monday’s first 18 holes. 

The Lions are just six strokes behind co-leaders Henderson State and St. Mary’s, who shot a 312 and two strokes behind East Central and Oklahoma Baptist, who are tied for third. 

Freshman Tyler Duffy (pictured) led the Lions with a 78 and is tied for ninth. Just a stroke behind him is junior Dustin Gideon after posting a 79, who is tied for 15th and another stroke back is senior Eric Westerman is tied for 20th after shooting an 80. Duffy and Gideon each had two birdies in their first round. 

Ben Cuzen of Henderson State and Chase Lindsey of Oklahoma Baptist share the individual lead after shooting a one-over par 73. Lindsey leads the field with three birdies. 

The Lions’ freshman T.J. McColl is tied for 24th after shooting an 81 and senior Danny Jun is tied for 32nd while posting an 82. 

A&M-Commerce individuals Ryan Gornto is tied for 15th with Gideon after shooting a 79 and Darren Whitehouse is tied for 60th with an 88. 

The field will return to the course for Tuesday’s final round at 9 a.m.
