Lions Finish Eighth at the Red River Intercollegiate
The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team finished eighth in a weather-shortened Red River Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
After Monday's rainy weather gave way to sunny skies on Tuesday, the field was able to get in the rest of Monday's action and 18 more holes.
Abilene Christian won the team title with a 593 (297-26) for an 11-stroke victory over host Cameron University. The Wildcats also had the individual winner as Alex Carpenter won in a playoff after shooting a 144 (71-73) to edge Mitch Molen of Midwestern State.
The Lions were led by freshman Darren Whitehouse (pictured), who tied for 14th, shooting a 154 (76-78). Whitehouse finished the 36 holes with five birdies among the top in the field.
Three strokes back was senior Danny Jun, who tied for 28th with a 157 (82-75). The 75 by Jun in the second round was the lowest of the 36 holes by the Lions and the sixth lowest second round in the field.
Freshman Tyler Duffy tied for 34th with a 159 (77-82) and junior Dustin Gideon tied for 55th with a 163 (82-81). Duffy was the top player in the field in par 3 scoring with two under par play. Senior Eric Westerman tied for 60th after shooting a 165 (83-82).
After taking spring break off, the Lions will travel to Wichita Falls for the Midwestern State Invitational, March 21-23.
