Men's Golf in 12th Following Opening Day of Grand Canyon Invitational
The Texas A&M
University-Commerce men's golf team is in 12th place after the
first day of the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational in Goodyear,
Arizona. The Lions shot identical rounds of 293 in Monday's first
36 holes for a total of 586.
Cal State-Stanislaus, who is ranked 12th in the nation by
GolfStat, is the overall leader by 11 strokes and 16 strokes
separates the Lions from second place Chico State, who is ranked
No. 1 in the nation in the same rankings.
J.T. Cockerill shot a five-under 138 (71-67) and is tied for
second to lead Cal State-Stanislaus. Gene Webster Jr. of Cal
State-San Bernardino is the individual leader after posting a
10-under 134 for a four-stroke lead.
A&M-Commerce seniors Eric Westerman
(pictured) and Danny Jun are tied for
17th after shooting an ever par 144 (73-71) for their opening 36
holes.
Freshman Tyler Duffy is tied for 47th after
posting a 148 (74-74), junior Dustin Gideon is
tied for 56th after a 150 (73-77) and freshman T.J.
McColl is tied for 83rd with a 160 (78-82).
Tuesday's final round will get underway at 8:30 a.m. at the Palm
Valley Golf Club.
