Danny Jun Tied for Third Following Opening Round of the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate

The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team is tied for 13th with fellow Lone Star Conference member West Texas A&M after the first round of the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate in Abilene, Texas. 

Senior Danny Jun led the Lions with a career-best two under 69 in Monday's opening round and is currently tied for third. He had five birdies in his opening round and trails individual leaders Corey Gilbert of Southeastern Oklahoma State and A.J. Pursley of Midwestern State by a stroke. Jun shares third place with Matt Vela of St. Mary's, Chad Bryant of Midwestern State and Adam Carpenter of Abilene Christian. 

The Lions as a team shot a 299 and trail team leader Midwestern State by 15 strokes, which shot a 284. The Mustangs hold a four-stroke advantage over Southeastern Oklahoma State and Our Lady of the Lakes. 

A&M-Commerce senior Eric Westerman is tied for 42nd after posting a 75, junior Dustin Gideon is 56th after a 77. Lions' newcomers Jay Pickens and Darren Whitehouse are tied for 62nd (78) and tied for 71st (80), respectively. Competing as an individual, freshman T.J. McColl is tied for 66th after shooting a 79. 

The tournament was delayed after a 90-minute rain delay before Monday's opening round got underway. Tuesday's final round will get underway at 8 a.m.
