Men's Golf Finishes 15th at The Territory Classic
Following a two-hour rain delay in Tuesday's final round, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team finished 15th in The Territory Classic in Duncan, Oklahoma.
The Lions shot a 308, 11 strokes better than Monday's opening round as a one-hole playoff was needed to decide the team title with Dallas Baptist edging St. Edward's. The Patriots and Hilltoppers each shot a 578.
A&M-Commerce shot a combined team total of 627 (319-308). Alex Carpenter of Abilene Christian was the individual champion with a four-under 140 (74-66) for a one-stroke victory over Nic Tacher of Dallas Baptist.
Senior Danny Jun led A&M-Commerce with a 151 (74-77) to share 35th-place honors. Junior Dustin Gideon tied for 58th with a 156 (75-81) to share 58th place. Senior Eric Westerman (pictured) had an 11-stroke improvement in the final round, shooting a 157 (84-73) en route to a tie for 63rd place. Freshman Tyler Duffy lowered his score by nine strokes to finish 79th with a 163 (86-77) and fellow freshman T.J. McColl shared 88th place after playing six strokes better with a 170 (88-82).
The Lions will return to the links next week at the Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational in San Antonio, hosted by St. Mary's University.
