POTTSBORO, Texas – A&M-Commerce hosted their first event of the season, the Crawford-Wade Intercollegiate, at the Tanglewood Resort. This is the only home tournament for the men’s golf team in the spring season. The Lions had a solid outing this afternoon missing a few shots but for the most part hanging in their being separated by 12 strokes for a 5th-place finish.

After a tough start, the Lions finished their first round in 11th-place with a 27-over 315, but recovered in round two, ending the day in a three way tie for eighth place. Cade Grimm opened up his spring season with a strong finish tying for 29th and led the Lions by shooting an 11-over 155. Patrick Russo is one stroke behind Grimm finishing his afternoon with a 12-over 156. The Lions individual Brent Bradshaw had an outstanding performance ending his afternoon tied for 14th with a 7-over 151.

The Lions enter Tuesday’s final round in a three-way battle for eighth place against Southeastern Oklahoma State and Southern Arkansas University. Incarnate Word is holding onto their seventh-place lead by only one stroke giving the Lions a good chance to move up the rankings with a strong performance tomorrow.

The Lions will have a lot of ground to catch up on though as the number one team Arkansas Fort Smith is sitting pretty with a 14-over 590. Paris Junior College is on Arkansas Fort Smith’s tail only eight strokes behind the first place team, while St. Mary’s is at 26-over 602 and currently holding on to their 3rd place lead with East Central following closely with a 29-over 605.

Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with the Lions looking to make a strong effort to get back into the race and win the final 18 holes. Full coverage of the 2012 Crawford-Wade Intercollegiate will be available at LionAthletics.com as soon as they become available.
