PRIMM, Nev. – Freshman Marcus Sanna posted a career day over the final round of the 2012 California Baptist Spring Break Collegiate, shooting a career-best 4-under 67 as he captures the individual title at Primm Valley Golf Club. Sanna led the A&M-Commerce charge as the Lions finish second among the nine-team field with a 25-over 593.

Sanna posted a respectable 4-over 75 over the opening 18 holes and entered Tuesday's final round tied for eighth in the individual standings. But the freshman found his zone over the final round, compiling his career-low 4-under 67 to finish the 36-hole tournament with an even-par 142, holding off Josh Briere of Johnson & Wales (Fla.) by two strokes to take home the title. Sanna becomes the second Lion to capture an individual title this season, joining Chris Leasor who won the Lion Fall Invitational back in November.

Two other A&M-Commerce golfers joined Sanna among the individual top-20 as fellow freshman Cade Grimm, who entered the day in first place, shot a 7-over 78 to finish tied for 12th with a 6-over 148. He finished one shot better than sophomore teammate Patrick Russo, who finished in sole possession of 15th-place with a 7-over 149 following a 4-over 75 Tuesday.

Jarret Martin just missed becoming the fourth A&M-Commerce golfer to place among the top-20, shooting a 5-over 76 over the final 18 holes to tie for 26th overall with a 12-over 154. Kyle Middleton rounded out the Lion scorecard posting a 21-over 163, tying for 38th overall.

A&M-Commerce entered the day holding the team lead after posting a 13-over 297 in round one Monday, and actually shaved a stroke off that total, posting a 12-over 296 over the final round. But a blistering even-par 284 by Dixie State College gave the Rebels the team title with a 16-over 584, besting the Lions by nine shots.

A&M-Commerce was able to hold off a handful of teams, defeating third-place California Lutheran (27-over 595) by two strokes while besting both host California Baptist and Academy of Art (28-over 596) to round out the top-five.

Up next for A&M-Commerce is the final tune-up before the Lone Star Conference Championships, making the short trip to the Golf Club of Dallas, competing in the Dallas Baptist Golf Classic next Monday and Tuesday, April 9 and 10.
