MARCUS SANNA TABBED LONE STAR CONFERENCE GOLFER OF THE WEEK
COMMERCE, Texas -- Coming off the first individual title of his collegiate career, A&M-Commerce freshman Marcus Sanna has been named the Lone Star Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Sanna opened up the 2012 California Baptist Spring Break Collegiate with a respectable 4-over 75 over the opening 18 holes, but found his groove over the tournament's final round. Sanna sunk six birdies over the final 18 holes, including five holes in a row, to shoot a career-low 4-under 67 and finish the Spring Break Collegiate with an even-par 142 to take home the individual title.
He defeated Josh Briere of Johnson & Wales (Fla.) by two strokes, becoming the first men's golfer to take home an individual tournament title since Chris Leasor won the Lion Fall Invitational in November.
Sanna has competed in six of the Lions' eight events on the year, ranking second on the team with a 76.21 scoring average. He has notched four round of par-or-better on the year and has finished among the top three on the A&M-Commerce scorecard in four of the six events he has competed, including leading all Lions at both the Spring Break Collegiate and the Texoma Chevy Dealers Crawford Wade Intercollegiate in February.
Sanna and the rest of the Lions have one tournament remaining in the regular season, making the short trip down I-30 to the Golf Club of Dallas for the Dallas Baptist Golf Classic April 9-10. A&M-Commerce then turns its sights on the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships, set for April 15-17 in Trophy Club, Texas.
