PATRICK RUSSO NAMED LONE STAR CONFERENCE GOLFER OF THE WEEK
COMMERCE, Texas -- For the second consecutive week, A&M-Commerce is home to the Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week, with sophomore Patrick Russo notching the weekly honor after tying for fourth overall at the Dallas Baptist Classic.
Russo closed out the final regular season tournament of the season with a career-low 2-under 208, finishing just one stroke back of the individual leaders. After opening up the 54-hole tournament with a respectable 2-over 72, Russo caught fire in round two, registering six birdies and an eagle, posting a career-low 4-under 66. He maintained his solid play in round three, posting an even-par 70 to notch his second top-10 finish of the season.
With his performance, Russo now leads A&M-Commerce in scoring average with a 75.36, including two top-10 and a top-20 finish on the year. He is the only Lion to compete in all nine events on the season as the fourth-place finish was the third top-10 finish of his A&M-Commerce career.
A&M-Commerce has now taken home the conference weekly honor in back-to-back weeks with freshman teammate Marcus Sanna winning the award last week after capturing the California Baptist Spring Break Collegiate individual title.
Russo takes the conference's Player of the Week honor into the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championships, being held April 16 and 17 in Trophy Club, Texas. The Lions are looking to build on last season's fifth-place finish, with more information available at the Tournament Central link.
