Chris Leasor Captures Lion Fall Invitational Title
Marcus Sanna Wins California Baptist Spring Break Collegiate

COMMERCE, Texas – Our #13 moment of the A&M-Commerce athletic season takes us out to the links where a pair of Lion golfers took home individual tournament titles during the 2011-12 season. It highlighted a successful season for the men's squad, which compiled four top-10 individual and five top-10 team finishes on the year.

Sophomore Chris Leasor closed out the fall season for A&M-Commerce in dramatic fashion, shooting a 10-under 134 at the Lion Fall Invitational at the Tribute Golf Club in The Colony. Leasor opened up the 36-hole tournament with a 3-under 69 in round one, leaving him tied for third-place in the standings.

But Leasor found his groove in round two, firing a 7-under 65 en route to cruising to the individual title. After posting an even-par 72 through the front nine, he notched birdies on seven of the final nine holes, including holes 10 through 13, setting a new career-best. It was the second individual title of Leasor's career after tying for the top spot at the 2011 Crawford Wade Intercollegiate in Pottsboro.

Freshman Marcus Sanna came on strong in the spring season of his inaugural campaign, highlighted by his even-par 142 at the California Spring Break Collegiate in Primm, Nevada as he became the second Lion to take home individual honors. Sanna opened up the weather-shortened tournament with a respectable 4-over 75 in round one, sitting third on the Lion scorecard and eighth in the individual standings after 18 holes.

But just as Leasor did at the Lion Fall Invitational, Sanna found his groove over the final 18 holes, shooting a 4-under 67 to leapfrog seven golfers into the top spot. Sanna sunk six birdies and 10 pars over the final round, including five birdies in a row to take the crown by two strokes and earning Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week honors in the process.

Sanna would go on to notch a pair of top-20 finishes, including tying for 13th the Lone Star Conference Championships and being named to the All-LSC honorable mention squad. Along with Leasor and sophomore Patrick Russo, along with a handful of freshmen that contributed in 2011-12, A&M-Commerce looks to the future and what 2012-13 has in store.
