Dragon Fall Invitational Final Results

PARIS, Texas – A&M-Commerce’s men’s golf team opened up its 2012-13 season with a strong showing at the Paris J.C. Dragon Fall Invitational as freshman Kason Childress tied for the individual title as the Lions placed fourth overall. A&M-Commerce notched a 12-over 572 after shooting a 289 in round one and a 283 in round two.

Childress, competing in his first collegiate event, set the bar high for his A&M-Commerce career, shooting an even-par 70 in round one, followed by a three-under 67 in round two to tally a 3-under 137 and capturing a share of the individual title. He was one of three Lions to place in the top-10 as fellow freshman Seth Maxwell shot a 3-over 143 in his A&M-Commerce debut, good enough to tie for 10 th overall.

Sophomore Derek Rucki notched the second top-20 finish of his Lion career, tying for 19 th overall with a 6-over 146 after notching a pair of 73s on the day. Fellow sophomore Brett Bradshaw tied for 26 th with an 8-over 148 with John Moug (9-over 149), Brent Reagan (13-over 153) and Yogi Gallegos (26-over 166) rounding out the A&M-Commerce scorecard.

The Lions closed out the one-day, 36-hole tournament besting conference rival Cameron (22-over 582) by 10 shots to notch a top-five showing in its first outing of the year. Host Paris Junior College won its host tournament, notching an impressive 3-over 563 to defeat second-place UT-Tyler (5-over 565) by two shots. McLennan placed third with a 9-over 572, three strokes better than the Lions.

A&M-Commerce now gets ready to dive head-in to the remaining five-tournament fall schedule as the Lions’ top-five begin their 2012-13 season at The Territory Fall Classic at the Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Okla. Monday’s opening round will feature the traditional 36 holes, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday, September 25. Full results will be posted at LionAthletics.com as they become available.
