DURANT, Okla. – A&M-Commerce junior C.J. Clem led the way for A&M-Commerce at the 2012 Texoma Championships, but the Lions found themselves out of the top-10 in the team standings after the opening two rounds, sitting 11th with a 55-over 631.
The Lions opened the two-day tournament strong, posting a 22-over 310 in the opening round, good enough for a tie for 10th-place. But as the afternoon progressed, A&M-Commerce's scores began to gradually rise as the Lions added 11 strokes to their first round total, posting a 33-over 321 in round two to settle into its 11th-place standing.
Clem opened up the day with a 1-over 73, then followed up that performance with a 4-over 76 to post the 5-over 149. He finished nine shots ahead of freshman teammate Kason Childress, who notched a pair of 7-over 79s to sit at 14-over 158 and in a tie for 40th overall.
Cade Grimm opened up the 54-hole tournament with a 6-over 78 in round one, followed up by a 12-over 84 and is tied for 55th in the individual standings with an 18-over 162. Jarret Martin is two shots back of Grimm with a 20-over 164, followed by Patrick Russo's 22-over 166 to round out the A&M-Commerce scorecard.
A&M-Commerce sits in 11th in the team standings, trailing 10th-place Arkansas Tech (50-over 626) by five shots as the Lions set their sights on their third top-10 finish of the young season. A&M-Commerce remains within striking distance of a number of teams ahead of it in the standings as well, trailing eighth-place Rogers State (45-over 621) by 10 shots while entering Tuesday's final round eight shots behind ninth-place Sterling College (47-over 623).
Oklahoma Christian is the leader in the clubhouse after the opening 36 holes with a 7-over 583, leading second-place Southwestern Oklahoma State (17-over 593) by 10 strokes. Northwood (22-over 598) is currently in third-place with West Texas A&M (32-over 608) and Paris Junior College (33-over 609) rounding out the top-five.
Tuesday's final 18 holes gets underway at 8:30 a.m. as the Lions will have their work cut out for them, being teamed with Arkansas Tech and 12th-place Southeastern Oklahoma State's J.V. team (72-over 648) in the final round pairings.
