CLEM, GRIMM LEAD LIONS THROUGH FIRST DAY OF BRIAN WILLIAMS MEMORIAL

Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational Results - Rounds One and Two (PDF)

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A&M-Commerce had a consistent start to the Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational, posting a 304 and a 306 over the opening two rounds to sit tied for eighth overall with a 34-over 610.

The Lions enter Tuesday's final round tied with Arkansas-Fort Smith with the 34-over 610, three shots better than 10th-place Incarnate Word (37-over 613) while remaining in the hunt for their second top-five finish. A&M-Commerce trails seventh-place Binghamton (29-over 605) by five shots, sixth-place Southeastern Oklahoma State (28-over 604) by six strokes and fifth-place West Texas A&M (27-over 603) by just seven shots.

Individually, C.J. Clem continues to emerge as the Lions top golfer in the fall season, shooting a 1-under 71 in round two to sit tied for sixth with a 2-over 146. Clem leads teammate Cade Grimm by seven shots after Grimm opened up the 54-hole tournament with an even-par 72, the lowest round of his A&M-Commerce career, sitting tied for 30th with a 9-over 153.

Sophomore Marcus Sanna, competing in his first event of the 2012-13 season, posted a 10-over 154 and is tied for 32nd overall. Seth Maxwell and Patrick Russo rounded out the A&M-Commerce scorecard, posting a 13-over 157 and a 24-over 168 respectively.

Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian is dominating the field through the opening 36 holes, posting a 7-under 569 and leading second-place Cameron (12-over 588) by 19 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round. Incarnate Word sits third with a 14-over 590, followed by host St. Mary's (20-over 596) and West Texas A&M rounding out the top-five.

Tuesday's final 18 holes gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with A&M-Commerce looking to make its move, teamed up with both Binghamton and Arkansas-Fort Smith in the final round pairings. Full results will be posted at LionAthletics.com as they become available.
