A&M-COMMERCE TIED FOR 11TH AFTER OPENING DAY OF MUSTANG INVITATIONAL

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A&M-Commerce returned to action in Wichita Falls, posting a 53-over 629 to sit tied for 11th out of 15 teams at the 2013 Midwestern State Mustang Invitational. The Lions shot a 24-over 312 through the opening 18 holes, then notched a 29-over 317 in round two, sitting just outside the team top-10.

Freshman Kason Childress is the top Lion following day one, sitting tied for 26th overall with a 10-over 154. Childress, who earned All-Tournament team honors at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Crawford Wade Intercollegiate three weeks ago, had a 4-over 76 in round one, followed by a 6-over 78 in round two.

Junior C.J. Clem posted the low round of the day for A&M-Commerce, shooting a 3-over 75 in round one before struggling in round two, carding a 10-over 82 to notch a 13-over 157 and is tied for 45th in the individual standings. He holds a three-stroke lead over freshman Seth Maxwell, who shot a 16-over 160 (79-81) on day one.

Sophomore Marcus Sanna sits one stroke back of Mawell, posting a 17-over 161 (82-79) while fellow sophomore Cade Grimm rounded out the A&M-Commerce scorecard with a 19-over 163 (84-79). Senior Jarret Martin is competing as an individual and is tied with Childress for the top Lion performer with his 10-over 154, logging a pair of 77s on the day.

A&M-Commerce opened the day with the 24-over 312, led by the 75 from Clem and the 76 from Childress as the Lions sat ninth through the opening 18 holes. But A&M-Commerce added five shots to its second round total as the Lions sit tied with Pittsburg State for 11th overall, one stroke back of 10th-place Arkansas Tech (52-over 628).

Incarnate Word sits atop the team leaderboard with a 20-over 596, holding a two-shot advantage over LSC rival Cameron (22-over 598) and six shots ahead of host Midwestern State (26-over 602). St. Mary's (28-over 604) and Rogers State (29-over 605) round out the top-five, sitting within 10 shots of the Cardinals.

Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8 a.m. as the Lions look to make a run at a top-10 finish. A&M-Commerce will be teamed with both Arkansas Tech and Pittsburg State, teeing off from holes eight, nine and 10. Full results will be posted as they become available at LionAthletics.com.
