Dean Laing Competes at the York Combined Events Invitational

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior Dean Laing was recently one of eight competitors in the decathlon at the York Combined Events Invitational.
The eight-person field encountered difficult weather conditions on Wednesday and the weather did not improve on Thursday, which led to its eventual cancellation.
The field was able to get in the first five events on Thursday as Laing posted 3167 points. He was the fastest in the 400-meter dash (51.53) and third in the shot put (37-3) and in the 100-meter dash (11.45). He was sixth in the high jump (5-8 1/2) and seventh in the long jump (18-7 1/4).
Laing was the lone Division II competitor in the field, taking on multi-event competitors from Division I including: Stephen F. Austin, Texas State and host Sam Houston State.
Laing and the remainder of the track and
field team will remain training through the upcoming Spring Break
and compete on Saturday, March 28 at the Bobby Lane Invitational,
hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington.
