La'Shara Jefferson Records Season-Best Throw at Texas Relays to Lead A&M-Commerce
Five members of the Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field team took part on Friday at the Texas Relays in Austin.
The Texas Relays is one of country’s most prestigious meets, drawing top track and field talent from both the collegiate and professional ranks.
Junior La’Shara Jefferson was second in the university/college section of the discus with a season-best and NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 156-0. The mark by the Lancaster, Texas native is an improvement of nearly six feet from her previous best that she set on Thursday at the McMurry Relays. The toss is the third-best to date in Division II.
Also, juniors Chad Washington and Cody Bolton were 15th (11.25) and 17th (11.36), respectively in the 100-meter dash of the college division; in addition, junior Sunny Henderson posted a time of 17.30 in the 100-meter hurdles.
The next
meet for the Lions is the David Noble Relays at Angelo State, the
site of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships,
starting with the multi-events on the Tuesday and Wednesday, the
7th and 8th and the relays on Thursday, the 9th.
