A&M-Commerce Men Compete at Home Opener

Texas A&M University-Commerce
opened its 2010 season with the Lion Invitational on Saturday at
Memorial Stadium.
The men’s team showed its depth, led by its quarter-milers,
which had four of the top five finishers in the 400-meter dash
– including junior Cairo Thornton (second,
51.12), sophomore Albert Sinegal (third, 51.13),
sophomore Desmon Randle (fourth, 51.57), and
freshman Joel Day (fifth, 51.69).
A&M-Commerce men also had three of the top five finishers in
the 1,500-meter run, led by junior Brandon Womack
in second (4:04.15). Womack was followed by teammates senior
Gerardo Delafuente (third, 4:10.69) and senior
Logan Kelly (fifth, 4:15.45). The distance
squad from A&M-Commerce also received a third-place finish from
junior Robert Reed in the 5,000-meter run
(16:23.66).
In the field events, A&M-Commerce received strong performances
from sophomore Kyle Weaver and freshman
Derek Denton in the high jump, where they finished
first and second with jumps of 6-4 and 6-2, respectively.
The Lions next compete in the Dr. Pepper Invitational, hosted by
Baylor University, in Waco, Texas, on March 20.
