Reed Wins 1,500 at Abilene Christian

Junior Robert Reed (pictured) won the 1,500-meter run as the Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s track and field team competed in the Oliver Jackson Classic (hosted by Abilene Christian University) on Saturday.
Reed won the event in a time of 3:59.31, shaving .29 seconds off his previous season-best time. In addition to Reed's performance, the Lions set numerous season-best times at the meet.
The next highest finisher for the Lions following Reed was junior Tyler Tyndell, who finished third in the 5,000-meter run in a season-best time of 15:13.98.
Junior Cairo Thornton set a career-best time of 49.16 in the 400-meter dash, finishing seventh place. The time moved Thornton into sixth place in the Lone Star Conference rankings for the event. Thornton was followed by freshman Joel Day, who set a season-best time of 50.07 en route to a 15th place finish.
In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Craig Shelton finished 10th with a time of 15.75 and was immediately followed by sophomore teammate Demetrius Holmes, who finished in 11th place with a season-best time of 15.76. Additionally, Holmes finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 56.05. Freshman Akeem Jackson followed Holmes, finishing 10th in a season-best time of 56.80.
Senior sprinter Anthony Valle also set season-best performances in both the 100- and 200-meter dash, finishing with times of 11.19 and 22.88, respectively.
The Lions next compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships, hosted by Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, May 7 and 8.
