A&M-Commerce Women Drop 78-64 Decision to Midwestern State
Midwestern State built an early 11-2 lead en route to a 78-64 win over host Texas A&M University-Commerce on Thursday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House. The Mustangs made 53.8% of their shots from the field compared to 37.5% for the Lions in the loss.
Midwestern State (5-7) landed four in double digits as Aqueelah Watkins scored a game-high 20 points in the win to lead the Mustangs. He was joined by Breeanna Brown and Savannah Carter, who scored 16 and 12 points, respectively and Jazman Patterson scored 11 more off the bench. The Mustangs outscored the Lions by a 24 to 8 margin on second-chance points.
A&M-Commerce (3-8) got a team-high 16 from Mattilyn McIntyre to lead the Lions. She was joined in double figures by Ashley Murphy and Nakazi Glover, who scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
After building an early nine-point advantage, the Mustangs extended its lead to as much as 16, 33-17, in the first half when Watkins made the first of two free throws with 1:26 left. Midwestern State outscored A&M-Commerce by a 20 to 6 margin as they went into halftime with a 35-22 lead.
In the second half, the Mustangs took the lead to as much as 18, 68-50 with 5:44 left in the game. A&M-Commerce managed to cut the deficit to 12 on three occasions down the stretch in the loss.
Next, the Lions will host Tarleton State on Saturday at 2 pm at the Field House.
