Lions Hit Nine 3 Pointers in 87-72 Loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State

A decisive 22-6 run midway through the second half by host Southwestern Oklahoma State led the host Bulldogs to an 87-72 win over Texas A&M University-Commerce on Wednesday night in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

A&M-Commerce (3-10) shot 50% from the field and made all seven of its 3 pointers in the first half to build a 41-37 halftime lead. Junior Genevieve Campbell (pictured) scored a team-best 20 points to lead four Lions in double figures. Also in double figures were junior Mattilyn McIntyre, who added 18, junior Nikki Garner and senior Ashley Murphy scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Southwestern Oklahoma State (1-13) shot 50% from the field and made eight 3 pointers in the second half for the win. Jenna Sprague, who had a double double with 26 points and 12 rebounds, led the Bulldogs. Ashley Rush and Natasha Brown joined Sprague in double figures, scoring 18 and 14 points, respectively.

A&M-Commerce made its first five shots as they built an early 14-6 advantage in the opening 2:12 of the game. Four of the shots were three pointers as the Lions went on to hit 11 for the game to match a season-high for A&M-Commerce, who also hit 11 against Eastern New Mexico on December 19.

The Lions built the advantage to as much as 10, 34-24, in the opening half with a 12-0 spurt. In the spurt, five different players scored for A&M-Commerce. 

Southwestern Oklahoma State scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 44-43 advantage with 17:17 left in the game. A&M-Commerce regained the lead when Murphy made a jumper and Garner added a free throw to put the Lions up by a 46-44 margin with 14:52 to go. The Bulldogs scored the next seven points and would eventually lead for the remainder of the contest en route to their first win of the season. 

Next on the schedule for the Lions is a 2 pm contest at the Field House against Cameron.
