East Central Rallies Late to Defeat A&M-Commerce, 77-72
East Central shot 43.9% from the field en route to a 77-72 win over host Texas A&M University-Commerce on Wednesday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
A&M-Commerce (4-11, 1-2 LSC North) landed four players in double figures including the first career double double from junior Genevieve Campbell, who had a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Mattilyn McIntyre added 14, Sarah Duran (pictured) and Nikki Garner each scored 10 in the defeat.
East Central (9-7, 1-2 LSC North) was led by Casi Rawls and Danielle Cox, who each scored 21 for the victorious Tigers. Jourdan Clark also was in double figures as she scored 13 points.
The two teams exchanged leads until the 9:38 mark of the first half when ECU’s Indhira Ramirez put the Tigers ahead by two, 19-17. The jumper sparked an 8-0 spurt by the visitors and put them in front for the remainder of the contest.
In the second half, A&M-Commerce found itself behind as much as 12 until an 18-6 run late tied the game for the first time since the 10:45 mark of the first half. 13 of the 18 points came from the duo of McIntyre and Campbell.
With the contest tied at 66 and two minutes remaining, Cox made a pair of free throws and Clark added a three pointer to give ECU a five-point advantage, 71-66 with 1:26 to go. The Tigers sealed the win making all six of its free throws down the stretch for the win.
Next on the ledger for A&M-Commerce is a trip to Durant, Oklahoma on Sunday at 2 pm against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
