Texas A&M University-Commerce Women's Basketball Host Visitors from Shiga, Japan
The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team received a visit on Thursday from students and staff of Shiga Junior College as well as other dignitaries from Shiga, Japan.
The visit is the fourth visit by the women’s basketball coach Takeshi Yamamoto to the United States. Yamamoto and A&M-Commerce head women’s basketball coach Nicole Anderson met when she served as an assistant coach at Long Beach State University.
Yamamoto, who serves as a sports professor and the head women’s basketball coach at Shiga Junior College, spent a year observing the women’s basketball program at LBSU and did some mental training as well as instruction on the importance in basketball of the balance between the body and mind. He has continued to bring students and other university and officials associated with the under-24 Japan National Team to the United States.
Earlier this year, Anderson made the trip to Shiga and participated in coaching clinics with both the school and the Japan National Team prior to coming to Commerce.
The visitors will be on hand for the Lions upcoming game on Saturday against Northeastern State at 2 p.m. at The Field House.
