WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Lions Lose to Northeastern State, 76-59
After an early 2-2 tie,
Northeastern State went ahead on a free throw and for the remainder
of the contest en route to a 76-59 win over host Texas A&M
University-Commerce on Saturday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (18-5, 7-1 LSC North) solidified its spot at the
top of the Lone Star Conference North Division as Jasmine Webb
recorded a double double with a game-high 21 points and 10
rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Jessica White, who
added 10 points.
A&M-Commerce (4-16, 1-7 LSC North) was led by juniors
Mattilyn McIntyre (pictured) and
Genevieve Campbell, who scored 18 and 16 points,
respectively.
After building an eight-point advantage, 27-19 with 7:05 left in
the first half, the visitors went on a 16-0 run to put the margin
at double digits for the remainder of the contest.
The Lions managed to outscore the RiverHawks in the second half by
a 32 to 29 margin. An 8-0 spurt halfway through the second 20
minutes cut the deficit to 14, 60-46 with 7:51 left in the
game.
Down the stretch, Northeastern State hit six of seven free throws
to lead the RiverHawks to their seventh victory in eight
outings.
A&M-Commerce will return to action on Wednesday night in Ada,
Oklahoma at 6 p.m. against East Central.
