Lions Knocks Off Angelo State, 88-80, in Overtime
Senior Nakazi Glover scored six of her 22 points in overtime and junior teammates Mattilyn McIntyre and Genevieve Campbell each added four as the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team posted an 88-80 overtime win over Angelo State on Monday night.
A&M-Commerce (2-4) had not defeated the ‘Belles since the 2007 LSC Tournament semifinals. Joining Glover in double digits were McIntyre and Campbell, who each scored 22 and 16 points, respectively in the win.
Angelo State (5-5) landed four players in double digits, including a game-high 26 from Camille Perkins. Paige Weishuhn had a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds and teammates Leah Lemaire and Lindsey Leatherman had 12 and 10 points, respectively off the bench.
The Belles’ sent the game into overtime as they closed out regulation with a 15-3 run but it was a 3 pointer by Glover with less than a second to go that sent the game into overtime.
The two teams exchanged baskets to start the extra period. A&M-Commerce gained a four-point advantage on two free throws by Glover and two more by Murphy. The Lions would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of overtime. ASU would cut it down to one, 79-78, when Perkins made two free throws with 2:11 to go.
Again, A&M-Commerce had an answer with seven-straight points to extend the margin to eight and seal the victory.
The Lions will next take to the road to face Eastern New Mexico on Saturday at 5 pm (CST) in Portales and West Texas A&M on Monday at 6 pm in Canyon.
