A&M-Commerce Drops 55-42 Decision to Host St. Mary's
A 13-0 run midway in the middle of the first half led host St. Mary’s to a 55-42 win over the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team in the final game of the St. Mary’s New Year Classic.
Texas A&M-Commerce (3-7) junior Genevieve Campbell (pictured) celebrated her 21st birthday with a team-high 12 points on the strength of 3 three pointers. Senior Ashley Murphy had her second-straight game with double-digit rebounds, grabbing a team-high 11 boards in the defeat.
St. Mary’s (8-5) got a double double from Kristen Williams, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win. Jenni Endres and Liz Boyd, who scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, joined her in double digits.
Both teams struggled from the field as the Lions shot 30.2% and the Rattlers shot 28.6% in the contest. A few key statistics decided the game as St Mary’s outscored A&M-Commerce by a 20 to 2 margin on points in the paint and 21 to 9 margin on points off turnovers in the win.
The game was tied for the second and final time at 8 when Murphy hit a jumper with 16:01 left in the opening half. The Rattlers scored the next 13 points of the game, 10 of which came in the paint for the win.
Trailing by 13, 33-20 at the halftime, A&M-Commerce held St. Mary’s to just 16.7% shooting from the field in the second half. The Lions were able to reduce the deficit to as little as 11 on a pair of occasions in the final 20 minutes.

Conference members Midwestern State on Thursday, January 7 at 6
p.m. and Tarleton State on Saturday, January 9 at 2 p.m.
