SAN ANGELO, Texas – Another slow start proves to be too much for the Lions to overcome. The Lions fell behind early and unfortunately could not dig themselves out of the hole before time ran out. Breanna Harris fueled a strong second half comeback, but it fell just short, giving the Rambelles a 61-50 victory.

Sophomore Forward Breanna Harris had her sixth double-double of the season with a career high of 16 points and 15 rebounds, but it could not slow down the Rambelles dominating first half. Harris helped take the lead for the Lions, scoring the first basket of the game but afterwards, the Lions lost the early lead and never regained it. The Rambelles started to take control of the game off a Lauren Holt three pointer giving them the 5-2 edge, but the bleeding wouldn't stop there as they stretched their lead by 6 more points making it a 11-2 game. The Lions never seemed to recover until the end of the first half when Bianca Stevenson hit a buzzer beater to give the Lions some momentum going into the second half. The Rambelles closed out the first half putting the Lions in an 18 point hole (38-20).

The Lions carried over the momentum from the closing second of the first half and fared much better in the second half, immediately going on a 5 point run. Freshman forward La'Tisha Hearn would start the run immediately by opening the second half knocking down a jumper. Harris would keep things going by snatching her own rebound and notching another jumper. Harris would be fouled and she would drain the free throw, making the game 38-25. The Rambelles would retaliate with a nice run of their own making the score 43-25 off a couple of Lion turnovers.

Bianca Stevenson had another solid night for the Lions notching 8 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, including a key shot to get the Lions rolling in the second half. Ashlee Johnson had her career high with 8 rebounds and chipped in with 6 points.

Statistically, the Lions outshot the Rambelles in free throws hitting 67% of their shots going 14-21. The Lions only shot one three pointer this evening, and the Rambelles only hit four of their nineteen, which made the difference in the game.

The Rambelles charge would be led by their three double digit scorers Leah LeMaire (12), Cassi Stegall (11), and Paige Weishuhn (13). Lauren Holt and her 7 point and 8 rebound performance would hold on for Angelo State to give them the 61-50 victory.

The TexAnns of Tarleton will be coming to town to face the Lions. A&M-Commerce has yet to meet Tarleton this season, but they are currently on a two game losing streak to Tarleton over the last 2 seasons. The TexAnns are coming off a dominating win over Abilene Christian 90-74, and the Texanns are undefeated in the LSC. The game will tip off Wednesday, January 18th at the Field House at 6:00 PM.
