The Lions battled the TexAnns in the opening minutes of the game to try to maintain a slight 7-6 lead, but after several turnovers and a couple of fouls, the TexAnns took control of the game and put the Lions in an 18-7 hole off a pair of Peyton Adamson three pointers. This seemed to take the wind out of the Lions sails as Tarleton quieted their offense for most of the first half holding them to only 26 points; this is the second lowest score in a half for the Lions this season. The TexAnn offense erupted soon after dropping a season high of 55 points in the first half of the game.
The second half was not much better as the TexAnns kept the Lions at bay holding on to their 30 point lead the entire second half and at one point, stretching their lead to 38 points. This was how the game closed out as the Adamson sisters with Kiara Wright and Brianna Bledsoe continued their great night in the second half.
Sophomore Forward Breanna Harris is proving to be the leader for the Lions as she again led the Lions with 14 points, but there were also some new faces for the Lions contributing to the game this evening. Abigail Leaupepe-Tele had her biggest game for the Lions this season scoring a season high of 12 points with 5 rebounds. Leaupepe-Tele not only scored her season high for the Lions but she also played her season high of 24 minutes.
TexAnn Peyton Adamson closed out the evening as the leading scorer again with 17 points and her sister, Shelby Adamson, was the second leading scorer with 13 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. The sisters were followed up by Brianna Bledsoe who had 12 points and 3 steals for the TexAnns. Kiara Wright had an impressive night leading the TexAnns in rebounds snatching 6 total boards and scoring 11 points, as well as chipping in with the team high 6 assists.
Tarleton State not only handed the Lions their second loss of the series, but they also scored their season high ending the evening with 91 points passing their original team high of 90 points. The TexAnns again had four different players with double digit points repeating their Wednesday effort.
The Lions will have to shake off these back to back losses as the schedule will remain tough as they make a tough trip to D.L. Ligon Coliseum to face off against the Midwestern Mustangs who are currently second place in the LSC. The Mustangs are currently on a 9 game winning streak and have already handed a loss to the Lions back in November of this season (81-44). The Lions will make the trip to Wichita Falls on January 25th to take on the Mustangs at 6:00 P.M.
