A&M-COMMERCE RELEASES 2012-13 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
2012-13 A&M-Commerce Women's Basketball Schedule
COMMERCE, Texas – A&M-Commerce head women's basketball coach Nicole Anderson today announced the Lions' 2012-13 schedule. The 25-game slate includes 12 games at the Field House as well as a road tilt against an NCAA Division I program during the preseason.
"I'm looking forward to the upcoming regular season as well as the opponents will we play in non-conference games," Anderson said. "We have a competitive non-conference schedule with a Division I opponent as well as three tough opponents from the Great American Conference that will prepare us for a successful run in Lone Star Conference play."
The Lions kick off the 2012-13 season schedule with a three-game home stand, giving A&M-Commerce fans an early look at their team. The Lions open up the season hosting Southern Arkansas on November 14, followed by a match-up with Southeastern Oklahoma State on November 24.
The 2012-13 Lone Star Conference season gets underway early for A&M-Commerce as the Lions will host rival Texas Woman's on Wednesday, November 28. That precedes a trip to Huntsville where Anderson's squad will face Division I program Sam Houston State on Friday, November 30.
A&M-Commerce returns to conference play, traveling to Abilene Christian to open up the month of December before hosting Angelo State at the Field House on Saturday, December 8. The Lions close out the 2012 calendar year with a trip to Arkadelphia, Ark., facing Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State December 15 and 18.
After ringing in the new year, A&M-Commerce jumps into the heart of its Lone Star Conference slate, hosting Incarnate Word on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 before making the long trip to Kingsville to battle the Javelinas that next Saturday. Midwestern State then makes its yearly commute to Commerce as the Lions and Mustangs battle on Wednesday, January 9.
The Lions then face what could be the crucial period of their season, playing six of the next nine games on the road, beginning with trips to Cameron and West Texas A&M. A&M-Commerce closes out the first half of the conference season at home, facing Eastern New Mexico (Jan. 19) and Tarleton State (Jan. 26), before venturing back on the road for showdowns with Texas Women's and Tarleton State to open up the second half of LSC play.
After a brief one-game home stand against Abilene Christian on February 6, its back on the road for the Lions for three of the next four, beginning at Angelo State and at Incarnate Word. Texas A&M-Kingsville makes its yearly trip to the Field House for a February 16 showdown preceding a quick road trip to Wichita Falls to face Midwestern State.
A&M-Commerce closes out the home portion of its 2012-13 season with games against Cameron on February 23 and West Texas A&M February 27, leading up to the season finale on the road at Eastern New Mexico on March 2. The Lions are eager to be one of the top-eight teams in the conference standings this year, earning a trip to Allen for the Lone Star Conference Championships March 7-10.
There will be a slight adjustment to tip-off times in 2012-13 as the Wednesday double headers will now begin at 5:30 p.m., one half hour earlier than the usual 6:00 p.m. start. In addition, Saturday double headers will now begin at 2:00 p.m. as opposed to the 6:00 p.m. start in past seasons.
